Tips for Getting Your Ideas Turned Into Products

Finding a manufacturer for your plastic products can be quite difficult, especially one you enjoy working with and who will give you a great product at a reasonable price. So what can you do to take your product from the conceptual phase to the high-quality end result?

Here are some tips to help you get your plastic sheets in Utah turned from ideas into actual products.

Create prototypes

First and foremost, you should focus your attention on developing high-quality prototypes, whether you develop them yourself or have someone else do it for you. Once you have your prototype complete, you can start focusing on quality and design testing and tweaking. The idea is that you should be able to present as complete of a “finished” idea as possible to potential manufacturers. A prototype that works well or at least provides a very good idea of what the ultimate finished product will look like and do is very persuasive to potential manufacturers. They want to know the job will be worth their time, and it will also help give them an idea of the kind of labor and costs that will go into developing the product on a larger scale.

Search for a manufacturer

There are a lot of different ways you can find manufacturers. The best way is usually to go through referrals. Who are other people in your industry working with? What do other professionals in your field recommend with regard to manufacturers? You’ll probably have a hard time finding a significant number of reviews for the manufacturers online, but what you can do is look for respected companies in your field on the internet, and then call them up and find out who they’re working with or how they got started. You’ll be surprised at how many of these people are willing to help you out.

Get quotes

Once you’ve gone through the process of finding a manufacturer, or have at least narrowed it down to a couple choices, you should send your sample to the manufacturer and have them send you back a quote for the project. When comparing quotes, make sure you’re getting those quotes for the exact same quantities, the exact same materials, etc. You want to have as strong of a comparison as possible.

Keep in mind that just because one company provides you with a lower quote does not necessarily mean that they are the best choice for your business. You should take a variety of factors into account, including the feeling you’ve gotten from that manufacturer during your initial discussions and the kinds of referrals you’ve gotten about their work.

Begin production

Once you’ve finally chosen your manufacturer, you can begin production. You might initially work with multiple manufacturers just to see who produces the best product before making your final decision. Regardless, this is when you can begin tweaking your order placement process and get a sense of what timelines work for the manufacturer and the quality of work you can expect them to provide.
